I'm here for the cool take
No need to bring the heat.
"And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity." —James 3:6a (NKJV)
Hot takes abound in our clickbait era.
I'm here for the cool take.
The take that requires you to ponder a bit before you just react.
The take that provides enough pause for you to consider if it's worth sharing at all.
The take that gives you time to contemplate different perspectives beyond your own.
It's easy to lob a verbal Molotov cocktail on social media, with a keyboard, or in-person without considering the effects.
Sometimes it's good to speak to the heat of a moment, but only to provide insight and not to pour gasoline on the fire.
When I take a moment to reflect and consider, I'm reminded that not everything I think needs to be said. Not everything is reasonable. Not everything is beneficial.
Here's what helps me: Sleep on it.
Things usually look different in the morning light. If it's still worth saying, you'll know for sure. And if it's not worth saying, you just missed a close call.
Either outcome beats setting things on fire.
